WMS Optimization

Changes in the way warehouses are managed

Growing role of automation and optimization of warehouse processes

Automation and optimization of warehouse processes are one of the most important challenges that operators of logistics centres in Poland and around the world currently face.
Implemented in an appropriate manner, they allow not only to significantly increase efficiency (through more efficient use of equipment and human resources), eliminate errors and minimize customers’ waiting time, but also to reduce the risk associated with frequent rotation of employees in the industry.

The role of automation and optimization has increased tremendously during the coronavirus pandemic. Until 2019, advanced solutions in this area were perceived as the domain of large and wealthy enterprises. Currently, it is a “must-have” for any company that wants to be efficient and competitive on the market. This is confirmed by research. In the pre-covid era, only 33% of warehouses planned to invest in automation, and 32% in analytics and algorithms to optimize warehouse processes. Currently, as many as 83% and 75% of respondents, respectively, intend to do so (according to the report from "Magazyny w świecie Przemysłu 4.0. Gdzie jesteśmy i dokąd zmierzamy?').

WMS

Warehouse Management Systems

Automation and optimization of warehouse processes takes place within the WMS (Warehouse Management System) class systems. As the name suggests, these are warehouse IT systems that manage the flow of goods and processes in the warehouse. They occur both in the form of a separate tool, supporting the operation of larger ERP-class systems, and also as an integral part of them.

By recording and monitoring all warehouse events, WMS systems can comprehensively handle the warehouse, starting from the receipt of goods, through their storage, order picking and consolidation, to the management of shipment and return processes. As a result, Warehouse Management Systems guarantee constant control over all warehouse resources and processes.

OTIMO and WMS

How does Otimo fit into this and
how can we help you?

Otimo offers a comprehensive solution (in the form of APIs, libraries or algorithms) to operational problems in warehouses, allowing for:

Integration with WMS systems.

Optymization of the distribution of goods when receiving deliveries.

Effective low and high stock replenishment.

Determination of optimal routes for people, forklifts or AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles).

Optimization of business processes and data circulation - support for the Workflow Management System and Document Management System in automating and increasing processing efficiency.

Optimization of picking and order picking paths taking into account the distribution of goods in the warehouse.

Scheduling tasks for optimal utilization of machines, involvement of human resources, use of rooms and service points, response to failures, minimization of downtime, i.e. JSP (Job-Shop Scheduling Problem) solutions.

At Otimo, we use our experience in creating world-class algorithms to optimize and improve the work of WMS systems.

WMS systems are our
core-business

It is the processes related to them that we devote most of our time to. The areas which we particularly specialize in are:
